Oil and gas a key market for specialist steam trap

Oil and gas a key market for specialist steam trap

Cape Town-based steam system provider Delta Steam Systems (DSS) is gearing up for a large uptake of orders for its specialist steam traps, following the successful completion of several one- and two-year trial studies at oil and gas plants worldwide, including in South Africa, says DSS MD Bryan Anderson. Initially introduced in 2006, DSS’s steam traps are unique in that they have no moving parts. The traps can remove varying loads of condensate from steam systems as efficiently as a conventional steam trap, but the lack of wearable parts results in their lasting between 10 and 20 times longer than conventional traps. The payback period for the DSS traps, which carry a ten-year guarantee, is, thus, less than a year and, in some cases, even less than six months. Anderson explains that industrial factories have been using mechanical-type steam traps for longer than a century, which are basically water-collection devices with a built-in valve and seat assembly that lets them open and close depending on the amount of hot condensate present. “DSS had numerous customers using these products and they were being replaced weekly and treated as consumables. The losses in steam alone were costing industry millions of rands every year and this was not even taking into account the cost of the regular replacement of steam traps or the labour to fit them.” To better serve clients, DSS initiated investigations into simple orifice plate steam traps that had been developed by the US Navy and achieved success on fixed condensate loads. However, these proved unsuccessful when the condensate load fluctuated – as it does in most industrial steam...
New Zealand Customer Visit

New Zealand Customer Visit

We had the pleasure of having our distributor from New Zealand, Derek Cressy, visiting us this past week. Derek spoiled us by bringing a number of food and drink products that have been made in plants using Delta venturi steam traps. Time was spent discussing and planning future growth between the two companies and working on areas of improvement to assist with future sales. Time was also spent hiking on top of a very wet and cloudy Table Mountain, which was really enjoyed by Derek. A great time was had by all and we look forward to seeing Derek with the rest of his team in the near...

Japanese Training Visit

Japanese Training Visit

Japanese Training Visit From the 18th to the 22nd of July our Technical Director, Andrew Minnaar,  traveled to Tokyo, Japan, to meet up with one of our most recent, but very successful distributors for a training visit. Our distributor’s representative from Los Angeles, USA traveled to Japan at the same time which assisted in overcoming the challenges in terms of language and culture. The time in Tokyo was spent in the office giving detailed training on the working of the Delta steam traps and introducing sales methodologies to our agent to assist them in growing the business. Two very important customer visits took place and were used to finalize all questions and understanding of the Delta steam traps that have been installed there and ensure they were operating optimally, which they were. To date, all Delta steam traps installed have proven to be effective energy saving steam trap assets and far superior to any conventional mechanical steam trap brand in the market. Not only were excellent steam energy savings evident, but also clear benefits such as massive drop in maintenance requirements, elimination of complicated steam trap surveys and large CO2 savings on a permanent basis. The Japanese region is serviced by an excellent distributor and they have worked very hard in creating excellent opportunities in terms of the steam trap market sales. We are proud to see our distributor sales and market penetration grow consistently while increasing the DSS brand visibility and...

Iran Oil & Gas Show 2017

Iran Oil & Gas Show 2017

Every year, Iran hosts one of the most significant oil and gas events in the world, the 22nd International Oil, Gas Refining & Petrochemical Exhibition. This year, Delta Steam Systems was ready for it! Flying through to Tehran, Iran, Delta Steam Systems exhibited alongside our Iranian distributor, Artin Nanotechnology. With the famous DSS steam trap on display the stand was buzzing. Not knowing what to expect, we realized quickly that it was definitely one of the largest oil shows of the year. Hundreds of visitors stopped to see the DSS steam trap, with thermodynamic explanations taking place in Farsi, English and Turkish. The amount of interest was phenomenal The full stainless-steel body and 10-year guarantee was enough to entice a large crowd including both new and old customers. As the crowd grew larger, even these old customers began explaining to colleagues and other potential customers about how the DSS trap works and why they have been installed in their plants. They raved about the steam savings as well as the DSS trap not having any moving parts. Seeing the excitement these past clients exuded was an incredible experience for all of us in the DSS team. Technical Director, Andrew Minnaar, explains the DSS trap Artin Nanotechnology did a lot of work prior to the show, and it became very clear with the amount of awareness the customers had about the DSS trap. As an international company based in South Africa, we could not have been more proud. The evenings of sightseeing in Tehran were like nothing we had ever experienced before. Using every possible moment available during our stay, the...
